Supporting Your Workforce: Preventing Burnout and Promoting Workforce Well-Being Through PH-HERO | Workforce Track
The COVID-19 emergency response has left many public health workers feeling burned out and harboring traumatic levels of toxic stress. This has exacerbated an already-existing challenge in recruitment and retention of the public health workforce. In five pilot sites, state health agencies have committed to addressing these issues at an organizational level through the PH-HERO initiative. This program seeks to improve workforce well-being through education in trauma-informed leadership, training, and education in effective management styles, as well as changing agency culture to address this threat to public health operational readiness. Defining Public Health’s Role in Mental Health
The Association of State and Territorial Health Officials (ASTHO) is partnering with Mental Health America (MHA), and the Center for Law and Social Justice Policy (CLASP) and Health Management Associates (HMA) to develop an equity-centered framework that describes public health’s role in suicide prevention and mental health promotion and in supporting programmatic and policy strategies.
