ASTHO supports state and territorial health departments in their mission to prevent and respond to sexually transmitted diseases (STDs).

In collaboration with CDC and key partners, ASTHO is engaged in activities to raise awareness about STD issues and needs, establish and strengthen cross-sector partnerships, and demonstrate the value of infrastructure at the state public health level.

STD Prevention and Control for Health Departments
ASTHO identified and engaged Strengthening STD Prevention and Control for Health Departments (STD PCHD) grantees that have implemented important or innovative strategies to tackle priority STD prevention topics and created interactive learning modules to highlight the work. STD Roadmap
Designed for new state health officials, the STD Roadmap will orient to their state STD programs. This 10-minute learning module will provide an overview of the national STD landscape and describe funding sources and policy issues for state STD programs.

Sexually Transmitted Infections: Strategies for Your State
According to the latest data from CDC released in January 2021, 1 in 5 people have an STI infection. This video presents state strategies and ASTHO resources that health agencies can use to address the STD epidemic in their jurisdictions.

ASTHO and NCSD Factsheet
This factsheet, developed jointly by ASTHO and NCSD, describes the challenge of antibiotic-resistant gonorrhea, and what policymakers and people able to influence policy can do to address it.

HHS: Sexually Transmitted Infections
The Office of Infectious Disease and HIV/AIDS Policy (OIDP) at HHS coordinates efforts for the development and implementation of the nation’s first-ever Sexually Transmitted Infection (STI) Federal Action Plan. This site includes content such as an overview of the STI Federal Action Plan, and guidelines for STI prevention, diagnoses, and treatment.
