By 2027, with help from partners working throughout the state on the 2022–2026 State Health Improvement Plan, Florida's public health professionals will take major strides toward address the most important health issues affecting their neighbors—including adverse childhood experiences (ACEs), suicide, and substance use and overdoses.
2023—2024
Using the Suicide, Overdose, and Adverse Childhood Experiences Prevention Capacity Assessment Tool (SPACECAT) will help Florida's state agencies evaluate their own strengths and weaknesses as they plan and advance vital prevention efforts. Along the way, they will devleop processes and models, a key framework and communcations plan, as well as partnership tools.
2024—2025
To reduce injuries for children, adults, and vulnerable populations, working groups will first identify potential links between focus areas—like drowning or domestic violence—and shared risk and protective factors related to suicide, substance use, and ACEs. They will then work together with strategic partners to create solutions that effectively address connected health challenges.
2025—2027
The scope of Florida's efforts will widen as the state recruites new partners and looks for protective and risk factors that connect Injury, Safety, and Violence health challenges with other state priority areas. These include Mental Health Being and Substance Abuse Prevention, Social and Economical Conditions Impacting Health, Maternal and Child Health, Alzheimer's Disease and Related Dementias, and Transmissible and Emerging Diseases.
