ASTHO, NCSD Awarded ASAE Power of A Silver Award

August 13, 2020

ARLINGTON, VA—The Association of State and Territorial Health Officials (ASTHO) and the National Coalition of STD Directors (NCSD) today announced that they were named a 2020 American Society of Association Executives (ASAE) Power of A Silver Award winner for their contact tracing course, Making Contact: A Training for COVID-19 Contact Tracers.

The contact tracing training is an introductory online course for entry-level COVID-19 contact tracers planning to work with the state and local health departments and was a collaboration between ASTHO and NCSD. Since the program’s launch in April 2020, more than 60,000 people have enrolled in and completed the course.

“We are honored to have our commitment to innovative public health recognized by ASAE,” says ASTHO CEO Michael Fraser. “The COVID-19 pandemic is the greatest public health challenge in history, and we are proud of the role that Making Contact has had in the rapid formation of a highly trained, nationwide contact tracing workforce. It is tremendously gratifying to be honored for the hard work and innovation that went in to developing the program.”

“Our organizations produced this training to prepare new contact tracers for their work of helping identify COVID-19 positive cases and those with whom they have been in close contact,” says David C. Harvey, Executive Director for NCSD. “We are pleased to receive this award and hope that our efforts will help make an impact in the COVID-19 response.”

ASTHO and NCSD look forward to continuing its work bolstering and supporting the COVID-19 contact tracing workforce, while pursuing new opportunities to expand public health infrastructure at the national and state levels.
