UDOH Letter Health Consultation: Human Exposure to Roxarsone from Home Raised Hen Eggs (pdf)
This letter is in response to a concerned resident's inquiry about elevated levels of arsenic urine levels in her children in Mapleton, Utah. The Utah Department of Health, Environmental Epidemiology Program (EEP) conducted an independent research on possible sources of arsenic, such as chicken eggs and feed and evaluated the concentration of roxarsone, an arsenic-based additive used in chicken feed, in both feed and eggs to determine if the concentrations detected posed a public health hazard to individuals from consumption.
