Raising the bar for state public health

What's New

New Technical Assistance Opportunity! ASTHO will provide targeted, customized technical assistance to select states to help states prepare for the Public Health Accreditation Board’s (PHAB) voluntary national accreditation program and to foster quality improvement in state public health.  For more information and to submit an expression of interest to receive this custom technical assistance, please click here.

Do you have a State Health Improvement Plan to share?
To assist states as they prepare for accreditation, ASTHO is creating a repository of examples, templates and model practices. If you would like your State Health Assessment or State Health Improvement Plan featured in ASTHO's resource repository, please contact Tom Briggs at tbriggs@astho.org  for more information. About

Through its performance projects ASTHO fosters a culture of quality improvement in state health agencies and systems. ASTHO provides technical and program support to the Public Health Accreditation Board and regularly provides custom technical assistance to states preparing for voluntary national accreditation. ASTHO has also been a partner in the National Public Health Performance Standards Program since its inception, leading the development of the state assessment and supporting states’ use of it. To guide its work in these areas, ASTHO created the Performance Policy Committee in 2007, which provides state-based leadership and policy recommendations to strengthen the ability of ASTHO members and partners to improve the quality of state public health.
