ASTHO President Participates in Congressional Briefing on Prescription Drug Abuse

On April 3, 2014, the Injury and Violence Prevention Network, along with ASTHO and the Congressional Caucus on Prescription Drug Abuse, chaired by House Appropriations Chair Hal Rogers, held a briefing on the prescription drug use and overdose epidemic. The briefing, widely attended by concerned members of the community as well as House and Senate staff, touched on many areas of prescription drug abuse from the viewpoints of the federal government, states, and individual experiences dealing with this widespread problem. The briefing panel included ASTHO President Terry Cline (OK); Ileana Arias, principal deputy director for CDC's Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry; Van Ingram, executive director for the Kentucky Office of Drug Control Policy; Mary Bono, former congresswoman and co-chair of the Congressional Caucus on Prescription Drug Abuse; and Rich Hamburg, deputy director for Trust for America's Health.
