The ASTHO e-Health Project addresses electronic health data, health data systems, surveillance systems, and the capacity of state and local information infrastructures to measure population health status and workforce capacity. The project is also supported by the ASTHO e-Health Policy Committee, whose members include state health officials and informatics directors.

HHS has mandated that healthcare providers (specifically, all covered entities under the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA)) must transition to ICD-10 on October 1, 2014.

HITECH Act and Meaningful Use
ASTHO helps states and territorial public health agencies prepare for meaningful use requirements by providing tools and resources detailing the criteria, case examples, and guidance documents.
