Massachusetts Stroke Systems of Care Plan

Summary

  • The Massachusetts Department of Public Health was well-poised to effectively guide development of a comprehensive stroke system of care agenda, based on its success in pre-hospital and hospital stroke collaborative quality improvement, statewide partnerships, and its evidence-based Stroke Heroes Act FAST media campaign for recognition of stroke signs and symptoms.

The other four major collaborators for the Stroke Systems Plan included: American Heart Association/American Stroke Association; Massachusetts Peer Review Organization; Bureau of Health Care Safety and Quality; and MDPH’s Integration Demonstration Project (IDP), one of four pilot projects funded by the CDC that aims to develop a model for the integration of chronic disease programs.
