ASTHO's Primary Care project provides training and assistance to primary care office directors and staff. Work under this initiative includes development of an orientation manual for new primary care office directors, a training curriculum for PCO staff and mentorship programs for directors and their staff.

The 2011 Primary Care Office Director Orientation Manual provides introductory assistance to newly hired employees of State or Territorial Primary Care Offices (PCOs). Although this manual’s target audience is new PCO employees, the manual also contains reference materials and documents useful to veteran PCO staff.

Kansas Workforce Demonstration Project
The Kansas Primary Care Office’s demonstration project included a survey of the PCO’s target audience about their knowledge of federal and state resources and preferred methods of communication. The demonstration project also allowed for the further development of data for a statewide needs assessment of geographic areas and populations that lack access as well as development of comprehensive information about available resources.
