TIM WIEDRICH RECEIVES
THE ASSOCIATION OF STATE AND TERRITORIAL HEALTH OFFICIALS’ “STATE-LEVEL
EXCELLENCE IN PUBLIC HEALTH AWARD”
(Arlington, VA) 10-19-2009
– Last week, the Association of State and Territorial Health Officials (ASTHO)
presented the State-Level Excellence in Public Health Award to Tim Wiedrich,
MBA, at the ASTHO Annual Meeting, in Vienna, Virginia.
Occasionally, the Association presents its Excellence in
Public Health Award to recognize outstanding service on behalf of the public
health community. Traditionally the
award is presented in two categories, national-level and state-level and is for
outstanding national leadership in promoting health and preventing disease as
an alternative to more costly payments for sickness and illness.
Mr. Wiedrich is the Chief of the Emergency Preparedness and
Response Section of the North Dakota Department of Health. This award honors
Mr. Wiedrich’s leadership in organizing and initially chairing the state
preparedness directors. This
organizational structure has been incredibly important in the public health
arena since 9/11.
Tim Wiedrich joined the North Dakota Department of Health in
1984 as a program representative for the Division of Emergency Medical Services
and was appointed director in 1988. Before joining the state health department, Tim served as chief
investigator for the North Dakota Attorney General's Consumer Fraud and
Antitrust Division. He is a native of Beulah, N.D., where he was a member of
the volunteer ambulance service for 10 years. In addition to serving as section
chief of the Emergency Preparedness and Response Section, Tim also directs the
department's Division of Education Technology.
