Senate Continues Work on ACA Repeal

Thirteen key senators working on the ACA replacement bill met with President Trump this week, along with HHS Secretary Price and CMS Administrator Seema Verma. Details of the bill have not been released by the Senate. A vote before the July 4 recess seems unlikely at this point.

Senate Hearings

On June 15, the Senate Subcommittee on Departments of Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education, and Related Agencies held a hearing to examine proposed budget estimates and justification for FY18 for HHS. ASTHO will monitor and provide a summary of key points.

The House introduces bill on Maternal, Infant, and Early Childhood Home Visiting

The House of Representatives introduced the “Increasing Opportunity through Evidence-Based Home Visiting Act” (HR 2824). If passed, the bill would authorize the program through 2022. Funding for the current program expires Sept. 30. The bill proposes changes to the evidentiary standard and needs assessment process, along with the introduction of a pay for success option and a new required state match. ASTHO will monitor and provide updates.

FDA Extends Nutrition Label Rules

In May 2016, FDA finalized the nutrition facts and supplement facts label, as well as the serving size final rules, and set a compliance date for July 26, 2018, with an additional year to comply for manufacturers with annual food sales of less than $10 million. A new compliance date has not been announced by FDA.
