This week, action on Capitol Hill is centered around debate on the American Health Care Act, the Republicans’ long-awaited legislation to replace ACA. The House Ways and Means Committee became the first panel to approve the bill, but passage is still far from assured. Although White House and Republican leaders had hoped to fast-track the legislation, resistance to the new healthcare bill strengthened on Wednesday, as key industry groups, such as the American Medical Association and the American Hospital Association, announced their opposition. ASTHO will continue to monitor debate and advocate for sustained public health funding regardless of the outcome.
