ASTHO is supported by a network of 20 Affiliated Organizations representing an array of state public health agency leaders. While each Affiliate represents a different executive leader within the state and territorial health agencies, all share a common mission to promote and protect the public’s health and prevent illness and injury.

Top leaders from ASTHO and the 20 Affiliates serve on ASTHO’s Affiliate Council. The Council meets at least quarterly to share information on major initiatives and identify ways the organizations can align to better support states and territories in their efforts to improve public health outcomes.

Affiliated Organizations

Association of Health Facility Survey Agencies (AHFSA)
The Association strengthens the role of member state agencies in advocating, establishing, overseeing and coordinating healthcare quality standards to assure the highest practicable quality of healthcare for all state and federally-regulated health care providers.

Association of Immunization Managers (AIM)
AIM is a non-profit, tax-exempt membership organization for the 64 state, territorial, and local immunization managers. AIM is dedicated to working with its partners nationwide to reduce, eliminate or eradicate vaccine preventable diseases; promote adequate and efficient allocation of resources to immunization efforts, promote development and implementation of sound immunization policies and programs, and provide a forum for development and dissemination of information about effective immunization programs among its members.

Association of Maternal and Child Health Programs (AMCHP)
AMCHP is an important resource and advocate for quality health care for women, children and families, especially those who are low-income and underserved. AMCHP represents state public health leaders who promote the health of America’s families. Our members come from the highest levels of state government and include directors of maternal and child health programs, directors of programs for children with special health care needs, adolescent health coordinators and other public health leaders.

Association of Public Health Laboratories (APHL)
APHL represents national, state, city, and local public health, environmental, and international laboratories on issues of public health importance. APHL's mission is to promote the role of public health laboratories in support of national and global objectives, and to promote policies and programs that assure continuous improvement in the quality of laboratory practices.

Association of State and Territorial Dental Directors (ASTDD)
ASTDD represents the directors and staff of state and territorial public health programs for oral health. ASTDD provides leadership to advocate a governmental oral health presence in each state and territory, to formulate and promote sound oral health policy, to increase awareness of oral health issues, and to assist in the development of initiatives for prevention and control of oral diseases.

Association of State and Territorial Directors of Nursing (ASTDN)
ASTDN is an active association of public health nursing leaders from across the United States and its Territories. ASTDN promotes a program of national health protection and promotion, establishes guidelines for states and territories in setting standards for public health nursing services, and stimulates and promotes more effective use of public health nurses, identifies methods of improving the education, utilization and distribution of public health nurses.

Association of State and Territorial Health Liaison Officials (ASTLHLO)
The Association is made up of the representatives from each state and territory whose responsibility is the support and oversight of local public health units. ASTLHLO is committed to enhance communication, provide a support network, and provide an opportunity for local health liaison officials to promote and influence national public health policy.

Association of State and Territorial Public Health Nutrition Directors (ASTPHND)
ASTPHND provides national and state leadership on food and nutrition policy, programs, and services.. The Association works to strengthen policy, programs, and services related to food, nutrition, and health through communication, education to prevent and control diet and physical activity related conditions.

Association of State and Territorial Public Health Social Workers (ASTPHSW)
ASTPHSW is dedicated to optimal social functioning of individuals and families through education, communication and advocacy with the following objectives: to develop and maintain a broad based membership comprised of persons from the United States and its territories; to support a forum for the exchange of ideas, information sharing, and discussion of mutual concerns among social workers in public health; to promote improved social work practices affecting clients; and to advocate for public policy that improves communities and the life of families.

Council of State and Territorial Epidemiologists (CSTE) 
CSTE is an organization of member states and territories representing public health epidemiologists. CSTE works to establish more effective relationships among state and other health agencies. It also provides technical advice and assistance to partner organizations and to federal public health agencies such as the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). CSTE members have surveillance and epidemiology expertise in a broad range of areas including occupational health, infectious diseases, immunization, environmental health, chronic diseases, injury control, and maternal and child health. CSTE promotes the effective use of epidemiologic data to guide public health practice and improve health. CSTE accomplishes this by supporting the use of effective public health surveillance and good epidemiologic practice through training, capacity development, and peer consultation, developing standards for practice, and advocating for resources and scientifically based policy.

Directors of Health Promotion and Education (DHPE) 
DHPE’s mission is to strengthen, promote, and enhance the professional practice of health promotion and public health education nationally and within State health departments. The Association promotes the quality practice of health education and health promotion as core disciplines of public health practice. It advocates for quality health education/health promotion programs and strategies to address the nation's leading health problems.

National Alliance of State and Territorial AIDS Directors (NASTAD)
NASTAD represents the nation’s chief state health agency staff who have programmatic responsibility for administering HIV/AIDS healthcare, prevention, education, and supportive service programs funded by state and federal governments. NASTAD is dedicated to reducing the incidence of HIV/AIDS infection in the U.S. and its territories, providing comprehensive, compassionate, and high-quality care to all persons living with HIV/AIDS, and ensuring responsible public policies. NASTAD provides national leadership to achieve these goals, and to educate about and advocate for the necessary federal funding to achieve them, as well as to promote communication between state and local health departments and HIV/AIDS care and treatment programs. NASTAD supports and encourages the use of applied scientific knowledge and input from affected communities to guide the development of effective policies and programs.

National Association of Chronic Disease Directors (NACDD)
NACDD provides state-based leadership and expertise for chronic disease prevention and control at the state and national level. the Association serves as a channel through which directors of public health chronic disease programs of states and territories of the United States may advocate public policy, improve the effectiveness and efficiency of public health chronic disease programs, and enhance professional growth in order to improve the health of the nation.

National Association for Public Health Statistics and Information Systems (NAPHSIS)
NAPHSIS provides national leadership in advocating, creating, and maintaining comprehensive high quality public health information systems that integrate vital records registration, public health statistics, and other health information. Since 1933, NAPHSIS has provided standards, education, collaborative programs, and a network for professional exchange among registrars and directors of vital statistics and related agency leaders.

National Association of State EMS Officers (NASEMSO)
NASEMSO is the lead national organization for EMS, a respected voice for national EMS policy with comprehensive concern and commitment for the development of effective, integrated, community-based, universal and consistent EMS systems. NASEMSO supports its members in developing EMS policy and oversight, as well as in providing vision, leadership and resources in the development and improvement of state, regional and local EMS and emergency care systems.

National Association of State Offices of Minority Health (NASOMH)
NASOMH is a nonprofit organization principally comprised of state directors and staff of offices of minority health, multicultural health and health equity. NASOMH is dedicated to protecting and promoting the health and well-being of communities of color, tribal organizations and nations. The association serves as a conduit to develop and implement unified approaches to influence and shape policies, resources, and innovative responses. Our efforts focus on minority health, the elimination of health disparity and the achievement of health equity.

National Association of Vector-Borne Disease Control Officials (NAVCO, formerly SPHVCC)
NAVCO develops and maintains close working relationships among state, federal, and other agencies engaged in or bearing upon the field of public health vector control and related problems. It promotes effective health measures in the field of vector control for the well-being of the public, facilitates the promulgation and exchange of technical and applied knowledge among the membership, encourages proper and helpful relationships among the various professions engaged in vector control, promotes effective vector control legislation, and stimulates the development or expansion of vector control efforts in the United States and elsewhere in the Western Hemisphere.

National Coalition of STD Directors (NCSD)
NCSD is a partnership of public health professionals dedicated to the prevention of STDs. NCSD provides dynamic leadership that strengthens STD Programs by advocating for effective policies, strategies, and sufficient resources and by increasing awareness of their medical and social impact.

National Public Health Information Coalition (NPHIC)
NPHIC is an independent organization of professionals sought after to improve America's health through public health communications. NPHIC serves as a channel through which the directors of public health information, located in American states and territories, may exchange and share communication methods, techniques and information for the enrichment and improvement of public health programs – the intent of which is to “make public health public."

Safe States Alliance (formerly STIPDA)
Safe States Alliance is a national non-profit 501(c)(3) organization of professionals committed to strengthening the ability of state, territorial, and local health departments to reduce death and disability associated with injury and violence. Safe States Alliance is committed to strengthening the ability of state, territorial, and local health departments to reduce death and disability associated with injury and violence.
